Having this in mind we have divided the peninsula into five divisions, calling them zones, for the purpose of this awareness week. A series of programmes propagating against AIDS commenced on Tuesday in the Jaffna District. Large groups of maximum of 250 young men and women in each zone are engaged in the propaganda all over the district against AIDS, hopeful of creating an effective awareness among the entire population in the Jaffna peninsula. Among those participating in the whole series of propaganda mission are the LTTE Medical Unit carders, National organization members, Jaffna university students, Teachers and others of various and professions connected especially with health and education. The Theme of the propaganda is in particular the causes of AIDS and their adverse effects, symptoms of AIDS and the preventive measures. These volunteer participants have been prepared to bring home to the common man how everyone could contribute through gaining awareness to prevent AIDS in the region and to be perpetually free of woes in this regard. Besides the volunteers coming into contact with the general public there will be illustrative posters, stickers in vehicles engaged in the passenger transport and banners in common places.
