
Call to the people of Mannar to join the drive and strive to arrest and annihilate the use of narcot

"Mannar District is found to be an area menaced by the increasing use of harmful drugs and it is the responsibility of everyone living here to be vigilant against the intrusion of this deadly element and to put an end to this most undesirable practice and habit of getting drugged by unscrupulous persons especially among some youth in the area", said Mr. Thangan, Deputy Head of the Political Wing on Wednesday the second day of the AIDS and Narcotics Awareness Campaign in Mannar. Mr. Thangan was briefing the media persons at the LTTE Peace Secretariat in Mannar when he said that Mannar District is foremost among the places menaced by the use of harmful drugs that is fast spreading among the youth and even school going grown ups. This has to be controlled forthwith and the unscrupulous elements and influencing forces bent on demoralizing our community have to be annihilated. The entire community should actively participate and work to destroy this enemy by such ways and means that could prevent our youth from getting caught by this devil. Not only the members of the community in the area but also the media persons at large should contribute their lot to disseminate such knowledge that would keep the vulnerable section of the youth aware of the ulterior motives of the intruding and influencing forces that prey on our moral strength. The LTTE leader in charge of the Rural Development Unit Mr. Anparasan, Mr. Sanchai, Head of the National Resurgence Committee, Mr. Amirthap, Head of the Mannar District Political Wing were among those who took part on the 2nd day of the Narcotics Awareness Week that commenced Tuesday the 6th of January. The AIDS and Narcotics Awareness Week has been organized by the LTTE Political Wing of Tamil Eelam in association with the Health Services of Tamil Eelam and the Tamils Rehabilitation Organization (TRO). This Awareness Week is programmed to continue for six days, and the last day's agenda for Sunday the 11th have the Jaffna university students, students from Vavuniya University, members of the National Resurgence Committee of Mannar District, officials of the Sri Lankan Government Departments, Teachers and students to participate.
