Civilians targeted
PoonahariToday morning Poonahari in the LTTE area, just across the sea from Jaffna, came under artillery shelling from Sri Lankan military. This area has been heavily shelled in August 2006 forcing most civilians to displace further inland into LTTE area in Vanni. Schools, hospital and homes were destroyed by the shelling in August. Since then there has been no shelling in the area and people were planning to resettle when the shelling has resumed today.
Batticaloa - Kollanullai The Kollanulai village in Kokkadichcholai in Batticaloa came under shelling today morning from the Batticaloa airport camp. The shelling caused severe damages to the livestock. Batticaloa – Thikiliveddai – one civilian killed Thikiliveddai another village in Batticaloa came under Sri Lankan military shelling yesterday at 10.00pm. One old man was killed in the shelling. Mullaithivu – Muththaiyankaddu Six Kfirs carried our aerial bombardments over the Muththaiyankaddu area in the Mullaithivu district yesterday. Paddy fields, ripe for harvesting, were damaged in the attack. Farm workers are also terrified to go for harvesting work as a result. Livestock was also killed by the bombing.
