Europe which has a total population of 800 million is made up of 45 language based nation states. South Asia which has a total population of one billion, (1000 million) is comprised of four states. Who is preventing and therefore benefiting by limiting new nation-states in South Asia?

LTTE Responds to Issue of Camp at Kurankupaanchan in Trinco District

LTTE has officially responded to the SLMM over the issue of an LTTE camp located at Kurankupaanchan in Trinco district. Mr. S. P. Tamilselvan in his letter to the SLMM has stressed the fact that the camp is not a new one and that it is not in GOSL controlled territory. The full text of the letter is reproduced below.

Political Head quarters,
Liberation Tigers of Tamil Elam,
23.07.2003

General Tryggve Tellefsen
Head of SLMM

Subject: LTTE camp at Kurankupaanchan in Kinniyai, Trincomalee District.

This has reference to our discussion relating to the above and the SLMM ruling consequent to an inspection of the site.

After a careful study of the geographical location, history of the camp and field reports from our Regional commander, we wish to respectfully state that we are not in a position to shift the camp for reasons given bellow.

This camp has been in existence for many years. The argument that new bamboo sticks are seen in the structure is not true. The fact that this structure and the kitchen have been in existence, though utilized off and on, can be verified on a site inspection. The nearest Sri Lankan military unit is about 8.5 km and therefore this camp is in no way a threat to their security nor a provocative element. We are unable to rationalise the insistence of the SLA as to the location of this camp being in GOSL territory.

According to the correct coordinates and the map given to you, our camp is positioned exactly on the boundary and not in anyway infringing into GOSL territory. The landmark provided by the SLMM based on their coordinate at the beginning, is actually in the centre of a tank. Our camp has been in existence in the bund side of the tank.

Insisting on pulling back the camp for no valid reason relating to security threat, provocation and hindrance to civilian life in the absence of a civilian habitat makes us feel suspicious of the intention. Since we are very clear on the existence of this camp for many years, we are at a loss to understand the adamant attitude of the SLA.

We regret very much that we are unable to accommodate the SLA’s request to pull back the camp.

Assuring you of our cooperation at all times,

We remain,

Yours Sincerely

S.P Tamilselvan
Head of Political Wing,
Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam
