Refugees from Valigamam north decided to reject govt relief.
Displaced civilians from Valigamam north who have been languishing in refugee camps due to military refusal to vacate their house holds have decided not to accept any more relief ration from either the govt or any non-government organisations.
This decision was taken when the Valigamam north refugee organisation met last on the 5th of September. These displaced persons are those who were chased away by the military twenty years ago and their homes and paddy fields have been forcibly occupied. The military has classified this fertile farmland area as a High Security Zone (HSZ) and the peasants are denied access to their homes. Having lost their homes, schools, places of worship and public buildings, these peasants have been living in refugee camps under tragic circumstances. To get rid of their state of dependency, they have decided to forego even the meagre relief ration assistance and continue to fight till they are allowed free access to their natural habitats.
