
Shelling attack on Manthuvil in Puthukkudiyiruppu kills one and injures three
At 12.20 pm today, Tuesday 13 January, SLA shelling attack on Manthuvil in Puthukkidiyiruppu killed one civilian and injured three more.
The shell exploded near a community hall in Manthuvil on the Mullaithivu Road, two kilometers from the Puthukkidiyiruppu town center. IDPs from Mulliyavallai and Kumulamunai had set up shelters surrounding the community hall. Immediately after the attack the IDPs have begun to relocate. This is the third shelling attack on the day and the second in Puthukkudiyiruppu that took the lives of civilians. At 10.00am today shells exploded on the Puthukkudiyiruppu hospital and surrounding areas killing a 38 year old woman and injuring four. Two of the injured were inpatients at the hospital. At 11.00am shelling attack on Thoddiyadi in Visvamadu killed four civilians and injured fifteen more. Among those killed were two sisters under the age of 16 and several old people over the age of 80. The Manthuvil shelling attack is the third one for the day.
