
Three civilians killed in aerial bombing in Kilinochchi
Three civilians were killed instantly when Sri Lankan Air Force bombed an area North of Murukandy in Kilinochchi around 10.00 am today, Tuesday. Three more civilians were injured and were taken to the Kilinochchi hospital
The civilians were IDPs who had displaced to KIlinochchi from Pandiyankulam in Mullaithivu few weeks ago due to shelling by the Sri Lanka military. They were in the process of displacing yet again due to constant shelling by the Sri Lanka military when the aerial attack took place. The civilians killed in the aerial attack are, Ponnuthurai Suvinthan, male aged 17; Thangarasa Jeseevan, male aged 22; and Kanapathipillai Thirunavukarasa, male aged 60. The injured civilians are, Ponnuthurai Puthiyamohan, male aged 32; Ponnuthurai Thayaparan, male aged 22; and Kunchappu Muruhesu, male aged 42. The attack came almost immediately after the UN agencies left Kilinochchi this morning. In the absence of international agencies, people in Kilinochchi are panicking that this could be the start of many more civilian killings.
