Kerosine allocation for the Mullaithivu district cut by half
GoSL has cut the amount of kerosene allocated for the Mullaithivu district per month from 7,000,000 litres to 4,000,000, litres, that is a reduction by 3,000,000 litres.
For more than a year, the Government Agent of Mullaithivu and other service providers have been lamenting on the shortage of fuel due to such restriction placed by the GoSL. Despite this the GoSL has been gradually cutting down the amount of fuel allowed into Vanni. The latest drastic reduction will have further detrimental affect on the essential humanitarian services. The restriction on fuel as part of the war strategy of the GoSL has not been condemned by humanitarian actors since there seems to be no international instruments that outlaw restrictions of fuel. Yet, the effect of such fuel restriction is very devastating when hospitals struggle to keep medicines refrigerated and fishermen and farmers struggle to continue their very basic livelihood activities.
