Fear of aerial raids grip Mannar and Mullaithivu
Sri Lankan Air Force bombed a civilian settlement in Alampil in Mullaithivu at 7.00am today badly injuring a 61 years old woman and a nine year old girl. The woman, Mariathas Nesamani, and the girl, Jesurasa Mosie, have been admitted to the Mullaithivu hospital.
Also today a large contingent of Sri Lankan military in readiness for attack was heaped in Kokupadayan area in the Mannar district. All 63 families of 263 people have displaced to Nanaddan village in fear of a military offensive. The displaced are staying with relatives or in schools converted to refugee camps. This influx of refugees from Kokupadayan to Nanaddan is striking fear among the Nanaddan residents that the Sri Lankan Air force will bomb these refugee camps as it has done on several occasions in the recently. In the meantime funerals were held in Padahuthurai for the 14 civilians instantly killed by the Sri Lankan Air Force air raid on 2 January.
