Resettlement refused in and around Maravanpulavu
The Commandant of the Sri Lankan Security Forces in Thenmaradchi Division in the Jaffna District, Col. Dias has refused to allow resettlement of people in the area comprising the villages of Maravanpulavu, Thanankilappu, Kaithadi and Navatkuli in the Thenmaradchi Division of the Jaffna District.
The representatives of various people's organizations in this area met Col. Dias at Koilakandy Ledchumy Vidyalaya on Wednesday the 14th of January 2004 to discuss with him all matters pertaining to resettlement of the people of the villages in his division.
Col. Dias told the representatives at this meeting that it would not be possible to allow resettlement in these villages as the Security Forces had to strongly maintain their structures to ensure their own security. Although the MoU had come into being the necessity for the security forces to safeguard themselves is essential and hence it is impossible to resettle the people anywhere closer to these zones, the Colonel reiterated.
