
February civilian toll
Forty Tamil civilians were killed and another seventeen civilians were disappeared by the Sri Lanka government operated forces in the Tamil homeland in the month of February 2008.
 Eleven civilians in Kilinochchi, 9 civilians in Amparai, 6 civilians in Mannar, 6 civilians in Vavuniya, 4 civilians in Jaffna, 3 civilians in Trincomalee, and one civilian from Batticaloa were killed by the GoSL operated forces during this month. Among the 17 disappeared, 10 civilians are from Jaffna district alone. This report includes the ‘Kiranchi massacre’ in which 9 civilians including three children were killed in an aerial bombardment by the Sri Lankan air force on 22 February and the killing of eight civilians in two separate claymore attacks in Munrumurippu in Panankamam, and in Olumadhau on 28 February. Also included in this report is the rape and murder of Nagaraja Jeyarani aged 16 by paramilitary when she was on her way to her uncle's house.
