Full day Hartal at Mannar in protest against unruly actions of Armed Forces
A full day Hartal was observed in Mannar today resenting the actions of the Sri Lankan Security Forces stationed in Mannar. This was in strong disapproval of the actions of the security forces attempting to check up the two LTTE women cadres in the city of Mannar and the unruly attack on the civilians.
As a mark of their resentment at these stark violations of the Cease Fire Agreement business establishments, Schools, Government Offices, Institutions and non-government establishments were all closed within the city limits of Mannar. There were no buses plying to and from Mannar town. All roadways were deserted as vehicles were off the road. On the whole the entire area in and around Mannar looked deserted. This Hartal succeeded as a proof of the united protest by all sections of the public against the atrocious behaviour of the security men that causes hindrance to the routine peaceful movement of the public.
It is further reported that the twenty nine year old Arunarajah Navaneethan, one of the victims of the army men's attack was to be transferred to the Jaffna District Teaching Hospital for further treatment and intensive care.
