“LTTE commanders, fighting units, mobilised for relief work, on direction from the National Leader”
Tamilselvan on relief and rescue operationsIn a message to the Tamil diaspora, Mr.S.P.Tamilselvan, Head of the LTTE Political Wing said yesterday that the Tamil people have yet again been called upon to face another displacement, this time due to the disaster that struck the North-East coast on Sunday 26 December 2004. The tidal wave, Mr.Tamilselvan said, has rendered hundreds of thousands homeless and bereaved over the loss of their kith and kin in numbers unprecedented.
“The National Leader has mobilised the services of all the commanders, fighting units, Divisional Political Heads and all other units for relief and rescue operation in the areas hit by the tidal wave” said Mr.Tamilselvan. Elaborating on it, he further said that the organisation is utilising all its resources to ensure that the displaced people, most of them having lost their loved ones, are taken care of in the welfare centres and in that respect the services of LTTE members along with that of the Tamil Eelam Health workers, LTTE’s medical teams, Martyr Thileepan Medical teams, Tamil Eelam Transport Service, Sea Tiger units, Planning and Development Division, the Economic Upliftment division and the NGO’s are rendering yeoman service to their brethren in distress.
Appealing to the Tamil people living abroad, Mr. Tamilselvan emphasised the need to be generous at this time and said that the channelling of the resources has to be done through the TRO, for it is the spearheading unit that consolidates all inputs and make arrangements for even distribution to the needy, in the absence of substantial relief aid from the government.
