
Civilian toll for the month of May
Sixty eight civilians were killed and a further forty four were disappeared in the Tamil homeland by the Sri Lanka operated forces during the month of May.
 There were a large number of deaths in Vanni due to claymore attacks by the Deep Penetration Unit of the Sri Lankan military. Five children died in such claymore attacks. Two more children were killed in an aerial bombing in Sundikulam. Six civilians were killed in the coastal areas of Jaffna when Sri Lanka military began retaliatory shelling following a Sea Tiger attack on their Nava base.
