
LTTE & Sri Lanka Army Regional Commanders for Trincomalee Meet to Address Issues Specific to Region
A landmark meeting between the Trincomalee regional military commanders of the LTTE and the Sri Lanka Army took place at Kattaiparichchan in Muthur area, earlier today (28/05/2003). LTTE's special commander for Trinco, Col. Pathuman led a delegation including Mr. Tilak - political wing chief for the region, commanders Uthayan & Vimalan and Mr. Bavananthan from the political secretariat of the LTTE. The meeting was chaired by the SLMM representative for Trincomalee, Mr. Jan Ledang. The Sri Lanka army delegation was led by its Trinco commander Brigadier Senaweera and also included Brigadier Abdul Zaheer.

Pathuman greets Brigadier Senaweera In this first meeting between the parties' command in Trincomalee region, since the signing of the ceasefire agreement 15 months ago, issues relating to the agreement itself and their implementation in the region were discussed in detail. It was felt that meetings between the two commands were essential to clear misunderstandings and to exchange ideas to resolve any potential problems. The recent conflict within the Tamil and Muslim communities and prevention of any such flare ups in the future were also discussed in detail. The delegations with SLMM officials Both sides agreed that establishing lines of communication between the two sides and meeting each other when there was a need would go a long way in establishing normalcy in the region. The meeting concluded with this commitment put in place.
