Grand Celebration to Mark the 3rd Anniversary of Capture of Elephant Pass Army Garrison
The third anniversary of the capture of the massive Elephant Pass Army Base and the second anniversary of successful defeat of the subsequent Sri Lanka Military Operation Agnihela by the LTTE was celebrated on Monday, 28/04/2003 at Pallai. More than 50,000 people from all parts of Eelam attended the celebrations. Pallai town and the former grounds of the Sri Lanka Army artillery base, where the function was held, were decorated with the colours of the LTTE and was brightly lit in keeping with the mood of the people attending to celebrate the achievements and pay respect to the fallen heroes.
The mass turn out was remarkable given the heavy rain and traffic congestion on the A9 highway. The function was chaired by Mr. Thangan from the political wing of the LTTE and was attended by many senior commanders of the LTTE. Military parades were the order of the day with the various LTTE combat units participating in the parade. Following the address by Mr. Thangan and speeches from other senior commanders of the LTTE, several book releases and an exhibition of the arms captured from these battles took place.
Col Theepan, commander of the northern front and Col. Vidusha, special commander of the Malathi women's wing accepted the guard of honour.
Col. Vidusha accepted a trophy from the people to the LTTE to mark the victories in the battlefield.
