
Fissure in Karuna group ends in internecine killings.
Some members of the dissident Karuna faction surrendered to the Liberation Tigers at Amparai today, 25 July. They reported that they were with the Karuna faction till 24 July and had strong difference of opinion all the while and at 01.00 hours today 25 July, shot dead seven of Karuna's men. Those killed are Kuganesan, Castro, Kesavan, Ruban, Arparan, Vicky and Vimalkanth.
One of the deceased, Kuganesan is said to be the second-in-command in the faction and was one of those 14 men arrested in June for criminal activities and released mysteriously with the assistance of the Military Intelligence. The incident, according to the escaped members, is said to have taken place in a suburb in Colombo where these men have been provided with military security.
