Incessant shelling from Sri Lanka military’s Manaluru camp destroys livelihood
Farming and fishing, two of the major civilian livelihood of the people in Kumulamunai in Mullaithivu is getting destroyed by the incessant shelling from the Sri Lanka military’s Manalaru camp.
Farmers working in fields in Thanimurippu and Arumuhathankula are lamenting that their farm work has been severely disrupted by the shells that are falling in the fields. Many have avoided working in the fields due to the persistent explosions of shells in their fields. Those who brave it to work in the fields are forced to run for cover too frequently and thus are unable to do any productive work. Fishermen in Nayaru are also facing exploding shells in the shores from where they go fishing. One fishing shelter in the shore was destroyed by the shells. Three days ago a woman sitting in her back verandah was killed by an exploding shell. In the meantime the house of S Theivendram in Kumulamunai was destroyed when Sri Lankan Air Force bombers dropped bombs on 26 April at 5.30pm.
