
'SLA should give up Karuna for LTTE-SLA meetings in Batticaloa to recommence'
'For LTTE to recommence regular meetings with SLA in Batticaloa- Amparai, the SLA should give up Karuna. It is only then we can trust the sincerity of the SLA in its dealings with us' said Mr. S.P Tamilselvan, Head of the Political Wing to the Head of Mission who flew in to Kilinochchi today, 28th June 2004.
The meeting between the two took place in the LTTE Peace Secretariat and lasted for about an hour. The Head of the SLMM suggested that the situation in Batticaloa and Amparai could be kept under control only by both parties meeting frequently. Mr. Tamilselvan responded as above and continued to say that the LTTE has credible evidences of Karuna's associates who have, realizing their folly, came back to the LTTE. Several crimes and killings Mr. Tamilselvan said have been, according to this members manipulated by Karuna while being under the protection of the SLA. Head of the SLMM briefed Mr. Tamilselvan of the various steps he proposes to upgrade the efficiency of the mission and discussed routine matters related to CFA. Mr. Tamilselvan assured that the LTTE remains committed to the CFA and solicited the assistance and supports of the SLMM to implement the CFA in full. Associated with Mr. Tamilselvan in the meeting was Mr. P.Nadesan, Head of The Tamil Eelam Police. Major General Trond Furuhovde was accompanied by Hagrup Haukland, Chief of Staff of the SLMM.
