Former Tamil parliamentarians meet LTTE

Mr. S. P. Tamilselvan, Head of the Political Wing, Mr. Thamilenthi, Head of the LTTE Financial Unit, Chief of Tamil Eelam Police Mr.P.Nadesan, Mr. S.Thangan, Deputy Head of the Political Wing, Miss. Thamilini, Head of the Women Political Wing and the LTTE District Political leaders met former Tamil parliamentarians at the LTTE Political Head Quarters in Kilinochchi at 11.00am today the 17th February 2004.

Messrs. R. Sampanthan, Joseph Pararajasingam, Gajendrakumar Ponnampalam, Vinayagamoorthy, Raviraj, Selvam Adaikalanathan, Mavai Senathirajah, Thurairatnasingam, Suresh Premachandran were the former Tamil parliamentarians present along with some of the key members of their respective Tamil political parties.

The discussions were focussed on the stand the Tamil parties to take on the ensuing Parliamentary Election. It was decided that all the Tamil candidates would be united under one symbol and show their solidarity to represent the one political ideology of the Tamils. This decision was accepted by all the former parliamentarians and unanimously resolved.

All those present agreed to contest the election on one and the same policy and under one banner. The LTTE are not directly participating in this election. But policywise they wish to have this election as one confirming and endorsing the aspirations of the Tamils.

The policy and ideology for which the Tamil people have been rallying under one leadership should be well demonstrated and established through this election for the unequivocal view of the international community. On this basis and solely for this purpose the Tamil National Alliance have joined hands and united with the LTTE whose support and co-operation is ensured in respect of establishing the aspirations of the Tamils.

This time the entire Tamil people are prepared to express their aspirations. Hence Mr. Tamilselvan said that their Political Wing had been instructed to explore the environment and to see if there were favorable conditions prevailing for the people to vote in the areas under their control. "We have also discussed this subject of voting in the LTTE controlled areas, with the Tamil National Alliance and other interested parties. We shall be able to confirm after examining the legal implications and the scope for the people to do the voting successfully", he said.
