Civilians killed by the SLA

Jaffna

Seven civilians were killed by the SLA and paramilitaries in different places of the Jaffna district last week.

A trader was shot and killed by the SLA at his shop on 29th April at Manthuvil in Thenmaraadchchi.

The trader killed by the SLA was identified as Nagalingam Tharumakulasingam aged 48, a father of four children. A youth has been brought to Meesalai from somewhere and killed by the SLA on 30th April. The victim has been identified as Rasamuthu Kiritharan aged 25.

A Taylor was shot and killed by the SLA in Kayts around 1.30pm on 30th April.

Sepamalai Ravi aged 25, a Taylor by profession was shot and killed by the SLA came on a motor bike while he was closing his shop.

The chief priest of Mudippillayar Hindu Temple in Velanai west was shot and killed by the SLA around 10:00 am in Velanai, in the islets of Jaffna.

A body of a family man was discovered on 26th April morning at Yattalai, Thavalai area in Varani. The victim lived within the demarcated boundary of SLA High Security Zone, an area where the 52nd SLA division and SLA camps are located. The victim was identified as Vellupillai Kanagalingam, 45. Kanagalingam was seen buying things as usual from an eating place Wednesday evening.

A fisherman was killed in the Jaffna lagoon within the perimeters of Jaffna Municipality when Sri Lanka Army fired artillery from the shores towards waters of the lagoon. The incident happened soon after SLA relaxed fishing along Paashaiyoor and Columbuthurai, and allowed fishermen to use paddle boats to go fishing in the lagoon. Gurunagar ban was not lifted.

Rasappu Yogendran, 52, who was killed in the SLA shooting, is a father of three children. An associate of Yogendran in fishing in the same boat narrowly escaped with injuries. The fishing ban continues in the Gurunagar area.

SLA shot and killed a youth at night on 29th April at Senthaankulam within Palaali High Security Zone (HSZ). The victim was identified as Sinnathurai Sujijeyanthiran, 19, a mentally ill youth, from Maathahal.

Sujijeyanthiran had lost his way when he went out of his house Sunday evening and had entered SLA FDL area at Senthaankulam.

Youth abducted in Karaveddy

SLA and paramilitary in a white van following a youth Saturday around 7:30 a.m, along Point Pedro-Jaffna road, opened rapid fire on him near Karaveddi Kunchar Kadai junction in Vadama'raadchchi and forcibly carried the seriously injured youth away in the van.

Fisheries society member abducted in Valigamam

Masked SLA and paramilitary men in civil clothes abducted a fisheries society member around 10:00 p.m 0n 25th April from his house at Kerniyady, Mathagal in Valigamam. Sellathurai Thavaratnam aged 48 is a father of six children. The abductors had their faces covered by black cloth and spoke Tamil with an accent.

Batticaloa

3 Tamil IDPs shot dead in Earaavoor

Sri Lanka Army lying in ambush along a lake at Siththaa'ndi in Batticaloa district shot and killed three Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) including a woman, who had gone to check their cultivation on 29th April.

Ponnusamy Sellathurai, 46, from Kudaaveddai, Eeralakulam, Nagalingam Thiruchelvam, 42, and Ms. Poopalapillai Poomani, 30, both from Perumaaveli, Siththaandi, were identified as the three shot dead.

The victims, Chena crop cultivators, had gone to see their cultivated lands which they had to flee from when the SLA launched offensives on the LTTE held area recently. The bodies were recovered within SLA controlled area and close to an SLA sentry post.

Labourer abducted, shot dead in Eravur

SLA and the paramilitary abducted a young Tamil family man from his residence in Vipulanthapuram, Mylampaveli in Batticaloa District night around 7:00 p.m on 25th April and killed him. The victim has been identified as Thevathasan Inthirakmar aged 28, father of one child, and a labourer by profession. The deceased was forcibly taken out by the SLA from his residence while watching television with his family Wednesday night and then shot dead in a nearby location.

Trincomalee

Tamil youth shot dead in Muthur

SLA shot and killed a Tamil civilian in Pattithidal in Moothoor south division in Trincomalee district Saturday night around 10 p.m. A group of armed men had dragged the victim out of his house and fired at him. The victim has been identified as S.Sithiravel, 25, a paddy farmer in the area.

Mannar

Two fishermen reported missing in Mannar

Two fishermen from Vankaalai, stopped at a Sri Lanka Army checkpost at Thomaspuri on Vankaalai - Naanaaddaan Road around 3:00 p.m. on 28th April, and were taken blindfolded to Na'ruvilikkulam coast around 6:00 p.m. The missing people are Victor Canisius Culas aged 39, a family man and Sebamalai Jebatheeswaran Peiris aged 30, were riding on a motorbike for a marriage arrangement.
