No possibility of President to consider of giving an interim authority
-A foreign journalist
A Foreign journalist in Colombo has said that there is no possibility that the President will consider giving an interim authority of any type, to govern the northeast, to the LTTE. According to the President, handing over the interim administration to the LTTE amounts to giving favoured position to the LTTE. Accordingly, it is the President's view that there should be representation of other Tamil groups in such an authority.
The President also seems to be thinking that if the LTTE is given the interim administration then all the funds for reconstruction and rehabilitation will go to the LTTE and that the government will not stand to gain anything from it.
The President also appears to be thinking that the government officials will have no role in the rehabilitation and reconstruction if the LTTE is given the interim administration. It was also pointed out that the LTTE does not have confidence in the abilities of the government officials.
The President also suspects that the LTTE will seek a final solution through the interim administration. The President seems to have explained all of this to Norwegian special envoy Eric Solheim.
In the meantime the spokesperson for JVP, Dilvin Silva told a Colombo based English daily that JVP will obstruct any peace talks based on the Interim Self Governing Authority proposal put forward by the LTTE. He also told the daily that the government has no authority to talk about an interim administering body before discussing the final solution.
