"We are equally concerned about the killings" - Tamilselvan tells Norwegian Ambassador

Mr. Hans Brattskar, H. E. the Ambassador for Norway met with Mr. S. P. Tamilselvan, Head of the Political Wing before the latter's departure to Geneva today 28th September 2004.

The Ambassador, among other matters focused attention on the deteriorating law and order situation in the context of alleged political killings and expressed serious concern in the interest of the peace process. Responding to the Ambassador's concern Mr. Tamilselvan said that the Leadership of the LTTE is equally concerned with the killings that are taking place in the military controlled areas.

On a deeper analysis Mr. Tamilselvan said that the killings appear to be inside jobs of elements that are working over time to disturb the peace process and discredit the LTTE and continued that there is a noticeable pattern of dissidents deserting the groups that are opposed to the LTTE, contributing to internecine killings. By apportioning the blame on the LTTE on speculation, Mr. Tamilselvan said, the criminals are not apprehended, a totally undesirable situation.

In another meeting with Major General Trond Furuhovde, Head of the SLMM wherein the same issue was discussed at length, Mr. Tamilselvan agreed to a proposition of the SLMM that both the GoSL and the LTTE should develop a program of exchanging information so that the parties can work cohesively to trace the culprits and bring the situation under control.
