
Tamil Residents in the neighborhood of Kumburumoolai Army camp in great fear.
It is informed that the Tamil people residing in the villages of Vembu, Kiran and Palaiyaveddai lying in the neighborhood of the Kumburumoolai camp of the Sri Lankan Security Forces in the District of Batticaloa are living in constant fear. This camp is situated 29 kilometers from Batticaloa. Due to the threats by the Armed Forces of this camp, about 100 families residing nearby keep away from their residences at night. There has been panic among residents since one of the soldiers in this camp died recently in an act of robbery. The robbery took place on the 9th of last November. Many other soldiers were injured during the robbery. Consequently, the people of the area found a corpse in the vicinity last Sunday morning and informed the army officers of the camp who instantly denied to recognize it as one of their soldiers'.
The villagers then buried the body, which was later exhumed by the police and handed over to the Valaichenai Government Hospital where it was identified as that of a soldier by name Wimalaratne. Consequent to this incident residents are panicked in fear of the Security Forces of the camp and the media got informed of it and complaints have been lodged with the relevant authorities who have been requested to take necessary measures to ensure public safety.
