People are threatened by the Intelligence Unit personnel at the Muhamalai checkpoint
Sri Lanka's intelligence unit personnel are delaying people traveling through the Muhamalai checkpoint in the pretext of investigation. As a result many who had to report to work or meet someone on time are being hassled. People are being kept for a long time and threatened in the pretext of investigation.
Elanatham's Thenmaradchy correspondent, who traveled through this checkpoint last Thursday, was stopped for more than half an hour. His IC (Identity Card) and his book were taken away and the military refused to return it to him. Only after strong words were used he was allowed to proceed. This clearly demonstrates that the military is not abiding by the agreed rules and the ceasefire agreement. Over the last few days the Sri Lankan military is targeting the people traveling through the checkpoint and hassling them.
