
SAL refuses to let resettled farmers to cultivate their paddy fields in Trinco
Tamil families resettled in Palampoddaru Pathinipuram situated in Trincomalee - Kandy road have complained to the Thampalakamam Divisional Secretary that the SL Armed Forces have banned them from cultivating their paddy fields given to them for farming.
The displaced people from Pathinipuram have returned there since the current Ceasefire Agreement came into effect. Each family was given 2 acres for farming. The Tamils Rehabilitation Organization has also built house for those who returned. As the farmers were getting ready to prepare their lands for the on coming paddy season, the armed forces camping there would not let them plough their lands. The affected people complained in a letter to the Head of Tamils Rehabilitation Organization, Thampalakamam village that the armed forces ignored the letter given by the Divisional Secretary on the recommendation of the local village officer.
