
Sri Lanka Air force bombs Puthukkudiyiruppu in Mullaithivu, two civilians killed
Two civilians including a school teacher were killed, four more civilians were injured, a house was completely destroyed, ten more houses were partially damaged, many livestock were killed and several productive trees were destroyed, when Sri Lanka Air Force bombed Iranaipalai in Puthukkudiyiruppu in the Mullaithivu district at 9.50am on Saturday, 9 August 2008.
The death, injuries and loss due to this attack, typical when Sri Lanka Air Force bombs a heavily populated area in Vanni, has been repeated more than one hundred times over the Vanni area over a period of two years. Forty eight year old S Thayaparan, a school teacher and father of six children, and thirty five year P Pasunkili, mother of two children were both killed in the bombing. Four more civilians, Subaitha Thamu, woman aged 18, P Rahini, a woman aged 39, M Vijayakumar, a man aged 48 and S Monia, a woman aged 25 are injured and admitted to Puthukkudiyiruppu hospital. S Monia and her baby were trapped under the crushed wall of their house and the mother miraculously escaped with injuries. She was able to protect her baby with her body and thus prevent injuries to the baby. She was rescued by her relatives. Her house is the one that was completely destroyed. Ten more houses were partially damaged.
