SLA orders more than 400,000 Jaffna civilians to obtain special ID card in two weeks
Armed forces of the Government of Sri Lanka have instructed the more than 400,000 Jaffna civilians over the age of ten to get special Identity Card (ID) within two weeks.
Earlier, the SLA has ordered those who live within Jaffna Municipal Council who are over the age of ten to get the ID card. Now, this order had been extended to all civilians in the Jaffna peninsula. It is now well known that Jaffna civilians live in constant fear of death and disappearance. They also face arbitrary threats and beatings from the military. Therefore a demand from the military to obtain ID card with such a short notice is sure to cause panic among the already fear stricken population.
