"Peace process stems from the CFA and hence SLMM has a major and challenging responsibility"

Tamilselvan tells SLMM

"The peace process in its entirety stems from the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) and therefore the SLMM has a major and challenging responsibility to upgrade, if necessary, to maintain and implement in full the CFA without infringing on the spirit and letter of it" said Mr. S.P.Tamilselvan in a meeting with Major Gen. Trond Furuhovde held today 17th November 2004 at the Peace Secretarait in Kilinochchi.

Matters discussed were routine but special attention was focused on the methodology and procedures of implementing the decisions taken at the recent meeting between the Tamil National Leader Mr V. Prabaharan and the Norwegian Foreign Minister Jan Petersen. Mr. Tamilselvan reiterated the necessity to co-ordinate major activities of the SLMM through the Peace Secretarait for that would facilitate expeditious handling of urgent matters. The Head of the SLMM, among other matters, shared with the Political Head his thinking on the commemoration of the Martyrs Day on 27th November and explained at length the discussions the LSMM in this connection with the political offices at the district level.

"It is a matter for pride for a people to commemorate with veneration the Martyrs who paid the supreme price in their freedom struggle wherever it may be in the world. In this context the Tamil people too become the rightful owners of this tradition but it is equally essential to conduct these commemorations in the most peaceful manner without prejudice and provocation to anyone and it is only by doing so that we fully respect the Martyrs", said the Head of the SLMM in his concluding note.
