People in need of medical care

The people in need of medical care and health services in the Thenmaradchi Division of the Jaffna District are undergoing untold hardships as their hospital at Chavakachcheri has not yet been reconstructed. None of the NGOs serving the North have volunteered to assist for the reconstruction of the hospital. Hence the people of Thenmaradchi face several problems to meet their health care needs.

Due to the aggressive military operations of the Sri Lankan Security Forces that continued until two years ago the hospital buildings were reduced to ruins and the spoils carried away. There are not any hospitalworthy shelters or furniture and equipments left to be considered worthy of use for a hospital. Although the available structure is not hospitalworthy the present management of the hospital is compelled to make the best of what is considered the worst for ailing patients as their dire needs are pressing.

Even then the essentially required space and equipments are very scarce. Hence the administrators of the health services in the hospital are struggling hard to render their services while the patients are left in the lurch being unable to obtain the urgent and indispensable services for their healthcare.

It has to be noted here that this hospital at Chavakachcheri which had been ravaged by war has not been attended to by the state authorities, as a priority for reconstruction and rehabilitation to help resume its full fledged functioning.
