Action to get the Security Forces to quit Vavuniya MPCS Head Quarters

The Vavuniya Multi Purpose Co-operative Society Ltd, is in dire need of expanding their services to meet the growing demands of their clientele. They are unable to proceed with their plans for immediate expansion as the Security Forces are in occupation of the buildings and all premises of the MPCS Head Quarters. Despite several demands made by the MPCS officials and agitations by the general body the Security personnel are persistent in continuance of their forcible occupation. The Vavuniya district Member of Parliament Mr. Sivasakthi Ananthan has now appealed to the Minister of Co-operative Undertaking A.R.M. Cader to take action to get the Security Forces to quit the MPCS Head Quarters to facilitate the urgent expansion to meet the growing demands of the consumers who are on the increase.

Mr. Ananthan has further requested the Minister to rehabilitate the roadways in the Omanthai area where heavy military operations took place. The restoration of these roadways is necessary for the Navaly MPCS Ltd, which is another organization handicapped in the war torn areas around Vavuniya. Unless these roadways are recovered from their present dilapidated conditions the Co-operative sector in Vavuniya will continue to lose heavily by way of tare and wear of vehicles engaged in transports.

Mr. Ananthan adds in his appeal to the Minister that the MPCS Head Quarters has problems in respect of their lands and particularly with the land in the bazaar where their buildings are located. The minister is requested to get the case of their land reviewed and to obtain the necessary deeds and documents, which are legally entitled for this land. This MPCS Ltd has not yet been compensated for the loss of their transport vehicle No-24-9938 that was engaged in the supply of relief commodities for the displaced and the refugees says the Tamil National Alliance MP for Vavuniya District, Mr. Sivasakthi Ananthan in his appeal to the Minister of Co-operatives, A.R.M. Cader.
