Plight of people displaced from LTTE part of Mannar to GoSL occupied Mannar
As the military offensives intensified in Mannar over the last one year, large sections of Mannar population in the LTTE part of Mannar were forced to flee their homes. Some of them moved into Sri Lankan military occupied parts of Mannar, following enticing invitations by the Sri Lankan military that promised all the assistance they will need.
The plight of this section of the people currently under the Sri Lanka military control is one of the worst in the island and is hidden from the view of everyone else. It is hidden because no one from outside Mannar is permitted to enter Mannar. Indeed this restriction of barring people from outside Mannar entering Mannar has caused families to remain separated. The restrictions placed by the Sri Lankan military on the people displaced from Vanni into Mannar are of course a lot harsher. This sector of the people is restricted to an overcrowded camp. Children are not attending school, and the sick are not getting treatment. On top of it all people are disappearing from this camp after being taken away by the Sri Lanka military.
