SLMM Head Meets Tamilselvan

General Tryggve Tellefsen, head of the SLMM arrived in Kilinochchi today 16th September afternoon by an SLAF helicopter on a tour of the Wanni.

In a meeting with Mr.S.P Tamilselvan Head of the LTTE Political wing, held in the Peace Secretariat at Kilinochchi General Tellefsen discussed various matters of mutual interest. The necessity to reactivate the district committees was considered very essential to have interaction with the local population and attending to their complaints relating to violations. It was agreed upon to convene a meeting of the district committee members very soon and familiarise themselves with the SLMM personal. Changes that take place periodically in SLMM staff, it was agreed, should be notified to the district committees and the LTTE political heads in the various districts. This was considered as the right step to develop grass root connections with the people.

Associated with Mr.Tellefsen were his chief of operations Mr.Timo Ekdahl, media spokes person Ms.Agnes Bragadottir, Niels Nikolaisen from it's lesion office and two other SLMM official. The meeting that lasted for about 90 minutes was very cordial and constructive. It was agreed upon to have this process of dialogue ones in every two weeks in the future. General Tellefsen also briefed the press after the meeting. "I have met Mr.Tamilselvan in peace secretariat and we had a very constructive and good dialogue and how to constantly be in contact as monitors and responding on over these challenges that the LTTE and the Government has and we have also gone through several issues that has been on the agenda and also agreed on that we will have even more regular meetings and not only with between Mr. Tamilselvan and me but also on the district level to see to that we keep up dialogue whenever it is needed and I am looking very much forward to how we will proceed on this. Also we discussed about the Manirasakulam camp in Trincomalee and we will be working on that both the LTTE and the SLMM."
