On six demands Signature campaign begins on Independence Day

A signature campaign for the people to endorse the six demands in respect of the peace efforts is scheduled to be launched Wednesday February 4th Sri Lankan National Independence Day. This was determined Wednesday January 28th afternoon at the closing session of the discussion that took place at Navalar Cultural Hall at Navalar Road in Jaffna. The meeting for the discussion was convened by the Jaffna University Students Union.

The resolute demands are reportedly the following;

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam are the sole and authentic representatives of the Tamils.

The ban on the LTTE should be lifted.

The legitimate liberation struggle of the Tamils to gain their lost rights and to establish their privileged claims should be recognised and endorsed by the international community.

The aggressive and so called security forces of the Sri Lankan state should not delay quitting the Tamil homeland, the National soil of the Tamils in the NorthEast part of the island nowadays known as Sri Lanka as recently renamed by the southern Singhala Buddhists of the Sri Lankan state. The armed forces should quit forthwith as it is foremost and urgent for the Tamil people to resume normal life and they cannot tolerate even the sight of a threatening and provoking atrocious aggressor any more.

The Singhala leadership should bring to a grind halt their bickering rival politics and steadfastly continue the peace efforts with the LTTE in good faith as the Tamil negotiators want to.

The NorthEast administration should be entrusted to the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam for an interim period on the basis of the ISGA thoughtfully and sagaciously proposed with the expertise of the advisory authority of the LTTE and presented for negotiations with the Government of Sri Lanka.

The resolutions of the demands were unanimously passed by the participants after a lengthy and exhaustive examination and discussion of various demands proposed enthusiastically and studiously by the membership of the Jaffna University Students Union.

Subsequent to the unanimous decisions arrived at through compromised consensus on the proposed demands which were tabled for discussions after preliminary consultations with knowledgeable elders and academics with national interest, the campaign was programmed to commence on the Sri Lankan national Day the fourth Day of February 2004.

Among the invitees participated were Jaffna University Prof. S. K. Sittampalam, Senior Lecturer Dr. Sithamparanathan of Jaffna University and representatives of several reputed and prominent public organisations.
