Mr.Tamilselvan meets Head of the Conflict Research Unit in Netherlands
Today 9th February Mr. S.P. Tamilselvan, Head of the LTTE Political Wing and his team met Professor George Frerks, Head of the Conflict Research Unit of the Netherlands Institute of International Relations.
Mr. Tamilselvan briefed the representatives of the Conflict Research Unit about the urgent humanitarian needs of the people of the Northeast affected by two decades of war and specifically requested their attention in this matter. He further explained to them the state's negligence on account of their indifference and inability to discharge their obligations to the war affected NorthEast. Besides, the parties in power have been immersed in the political turmoil and rivalry for power. This should not affect the innocent people of the NorthEast who can no longer endure the miserable conditions caused by the war. The peace dividends are yet to reach them. Considering the plight of the state due to politics the problems of the NorthEast people should be addressed direct. Mr.Tamilselvan requested the representatives of the Conflict Research Unit to explore the possibilities of getting the donor community to extend their aids and assistance directly to the war devastated NorthEast. Professor George Frerks responded to Mr.Tamilselvan with keen attention and assured him of considering his request favourably. Bart Klem -Research Associate, Drs Mw Dicky Methorst- Senior Policy Officer (Asia and Oceania Department) and Loes J. Lammerts - Senior Policy Adviser (Peace Building and good Governance) were also accompanied with Professor George Frerks in the meeting with Mr.Tamilselvan.
