Some Segments of the Sri Lanka Security Forces Are Attempting To Eliminate the LTTE Leadership Even
Mr. Anton Balasingam addressed a mass meeting at the conclusion of the UN Human Rights Day Rally held by the expatriate Tamil groups in Geneva. In his address, he highlighted the activities of the Deep Penetration Unit of the Sri Lanka Security Forces and drew attention to a recent incident at Killinochchi.
"Whenever I visit Killinochchi, our leader Mr. Pirapaharan used to come and see me and meet visiting diplomats. During my recent visit to Killinochchi, a group of soldiers from the deep penetration unit had planned an attack on Mr. Pirapaharan assuming that he would be visiting me. Our intelligence service, mobilized our cadres and we began a search to apprehend the group. However, upon sensing their imminent capture the group aborted their plan and escaped. This incident has aroused deep suspicion about the activities of some divisions of the Sri Lanka security forces, despite the ongoing peace process" Mr. Balasingam said.
