Release of prisonerAn ex-serviceman of the Sri Lankan Security Force Saliya Prathikumara Hettiarachi (29years) of Werakapola, Kegalle District who has been in the custody of the Tamil Eelam Police since 19th ultimo was released n the presence of the ICRC and handed over to his mother through NorthEast Secretariat on Human Rights (NESOHR) Director Rev. Fr. M.X. Karunaratnam at the NESOHR in Kilinochchi today 13th August 2004.
Human Rights Watch Advocacy Director meets Director of the NESOHRHuman Rights Watch Children's Rights Division Advocacy Director Jo Becker met with Rev. Fr. M.X. Karunaratnam, Director, NorthEast Secretariat on Human Rights (NESOHR) today the 13th August 2004 and discussed various human rights problems faced by the people of NorthEast. The discussions especially focused on the children's right to education and the Sri Lankan state's negligence n providing facilities and teachers for schools where children under 17 years of age attend.
