Another Hindu priest murdered by paramilitary
Hindu Priest Parameshwara Kurukkal was murdered by paramilitary after he blessed Sri Lankan President Mahintha Rajapakasa on Saturday when the Sri Lankan President visited Vaharai town in Batticaloa.
Priest Parameshwara Kurukkal was asked by the paramilitary to bless the Sri Lankan President on his visit. The priest was killed five days after the visit of the Sri Lankan President. Family members of the priest said that they suspected the paramilitary for the murder because the paramilitary suspected that the priest informed the LTTE about military positions. This is not the first time Sri Lankan military operated forces killed a Hindu priest. Another Hindu priest, Venkadakrishnasharma (50) was murdered after reported missing in Jaffna from 26 May 2006, when he left the Kaithady Pillaiyar temple after a special Pooja. Workers who went to mine gravel discovered his body with pooja items on 7 June, very close to a Sri Lankan military camp along the Kaithady-Kopay bridge. Priest, Venkadakrishnasharma was also suspected by the Sri Lankan military operated forces to be an informant reporting on the killings and disappearances by the Sri Lankan forces.
