LTTE-Security forces meet in VavuniyaA meeting was held between Maj. Gen. Sisira Wijesooriya, Commander of the Security Forces of the Vavuniya district and Mr. Elilan, Political Head of the Vavuniya District at the SLMM office in Vairavapuliankulam, yesterday the 8th February 2004. The meeting commenced at 9.00am and went on for one and half hours.
The security forces at the Omanthai checkpoint stopped and inquired two LTTE cadres for hours last Thursday for wearing cyanide capsules. Mr. Elilan has condemned this action to the SLMM in writing. And the meeting was held to discuss about this incident. Maj. General Sisira Wijesooriya stated that he had not known about this incident and regretted for what had happened and also gave assurances to prevent similar incidents in the future. He further said that the members of the LTTE were free to enter the government-controlled areas with cyanide capsules and to do their political work. He added that though the political situation in the south had changed they wanted the normal situation to continue. 09 February 2004
