"Sinhala masses are infavour of interim administration proposals"
-Organisation of parents & family members of the disappeared
"The Sinhala masses are in support of the interim administration sought after by the Tamil people but it is only some extremist elements who are speaking on racial lines", said Mr. D. Paththirana, Secretary of the Organisation of parents & family members of the disappeared addressing a press meet held in the Veerasingam Hall in Jaffna. Official of this organization visited Jaffna in connection with the formation of an independent human rights group in North. Following are the excerpts from the press briefing: "When 13 soldiers were killed in Jaffna this country had the horrendous Black July. But thousands of soldiers died in the attack on the military complex in Mullaitivu - why was not there a Black July then? Based on this we feel that the Sinhala people have realized the ground realities of the Tamil people's freedom struggle. In the South 307 military personnel were found guilty in connection with disappearances. But all of them have been sent to the North with promotions and are now considered as national heroes. We are able to see the sense frustration in the minds of the people in Jaffna in the matter of inquires relating to the disappeared. We are planning to submit a memorandum to the Attorney General in this connection. It is nothing but right that all those who are guilty of offenses related to disappearances be brought to book. Our organization is gainfully engaged in this process. What we aspiring for is peace with dignity for everybody in this island. We are now involved in establishing an independent human rights commission to serve the people in the Jaffna peninsula".
