
Commemoration of Martyrs' Day 2003
The all parts of the NorthEast are being decorated with red and yellow flags. The commemoration of the Martyrs' Day commenced with hoisting of the National Flag today, the 25th of November, 2003 in the homeland. The commemoration began with lighting if the flame of sacrifice in schools, public and private institutions and the LTTE locations. The national leader participated in today's events in a specially organized place.
So far 17, 708 Tamil men and women had sacrificed their lives in the struggle, which has been continuing for more than twenty years. The Martyrs Day is being commemorated every year on 27th of November to mark the death of Lt. Shankar, the first ever LTTE cadre to die for the cause. It is only through their sacrifices the struggle for the rights of the Tamil people has captured the attention of the international community in the present time.
