Education community in Kilinochchi/Mullaithivu stage massive protest march
A massive protest march was staged yesterday to coincide with the visit of Norwegian Ambassador to Kilinochchi, to show the anger and frustration of the education community in the Tamil homeland about the planned disruption of the education activities by the Sri Lankan military.
.jpg) The catalyst for the protest march was the killing of the Director of Education of Madhu Education Zone, T Rajakone. He and the principal of Vilaththikulam school in Mannar were killed by a claymore attack on the pair traveling on a motorbike on 26 February. Just a day later a school teacher and her entire family were injured by another claymore attack very near the first one. The education community also protested the frequent Kfir attacks near civilian areas that disrupted the schooling of children.
Staff and students from all the schools in Kilinochchi and Mullaithivu, employees and officers of the Department of Education, as well as members of parliament and religious leaders took part in the massive protest.
