Extremely hard to take computer related equipment into Vanni – Kilinochchi GA
“It is extremely difficult to bring any computer related equipment through the Omanthai checkpoint into Vanni even for use by government departments”, said the Government Agent (GA) of the Kilinochchi district secretariat.
Speaking at the certificate issuing ceremony for the students who completed a computer course conducted by the Sri Lanka Red Cross, the GA said that computer related equipment are severely restricted even for the government departments in Vanni and that private institutions are banned from bringing such equipment. “The students are learning computer courses under such restrictive environment”, he added. Many of the local institutions like NGOs are struggling to purchase printer inks, printer and photocopying cartridges, and even A4 sheets for the printers. It is not hard to speculate the devastating effect this will have on the functioning of the offices. Senior students in all fields also suffer heavily without adequate computer facilities.
