Gun fires aimed at fishing boats
There were gun fires aimed at boats engaged in fishing off the coast of Nagarkovil in Vadamaradchi. This firing went on intermittently at noon last Monday from the watch towers of the Sri Lankan Security Forces sheltered along the coast of Vadamaradchi. It is further reported in this connection that the fishermen of Vadamaradchi North have been since recent time used to go fishing in their boats with out board motors in the waters off the coast of Vadamaradchi East.
These fishermen of Vadamaradchi North have to unavoidably sail past the base of the Sri Lankan Security Forces to reach the Vadamaradchi East waters for their fishing. It was in this necessity and constraint the fishermen were on their route returning home along the shores when their boats were fired at from the coastal watch towers of the Sri Lankan Security Base in Nagarkovil.
However, the fishermen had a hairbreadth escape from any impact of the gunfire though they had to be desperately staggering at deep waters drifting far off the coast before they returned home late that evening having had to waste hours together in their unforeseen plight.
