
Large number of civilians displace by SLA’s artillery fire in Vavunathivu
Following last night's SLA move from Vavunathivu camp which was repulsed by the LTTE, SLA is continuing with indiscriminate artillery fire. Civilians has begun to displace.Last night, Sri Lankan military’s another attempt to move towards LTTE area from their Vavunatheivu military camp was successfully repulsed by the LTTE at 11.00 pm, 21 January 2007.
In this clashes two bodies of the Sri Lankan military were recovered by the LTTE. One RPG LMG, one PK LMG, one Radio set, 10 Grenades, and several ammunitions were also captured. Since then Sri Lankan military has been indiscriminately firing artillery causing civilians to displace. Sea confrontation in Vadamaradchy 21 January 2007
A naval confrontation between a sea tiger unit and a team of Sri Lankan navy boats took place between Valvettithurai and Point Pedro this evening, (Sunday). Beginning around 3.45 this afternoon, the clash lasted for about three hours. The Sri Lankan naval personnel manning a freighter triggered off the confrontation by firing upon the sea tiger unit, the Sea Tiger sources say. Sri Lankan artillery units, air force Kfir bombers and helicopter gun-ships were brought to the assistance of the Sri Lankan navy boats. One Sea Tiger was killed in the action according to LTTE naval command for the Vadamaradchy region.
