Friday’s all night aerial bombers over Kilinochchi disrupts scout camp
The five day scout camp for the Vanni region was badly disturbed on Friday night as Sri Lanka Air Force bombers flew over Kilinochchi for long hours from 6.00pm well into the night.
Three hundred and fifty scouts were taking part in the five day scout camp that was being held at the Vaddakachchi MV School. The school grounds was displaying all the usual arrangements found in any scout camp, including tents, arches and setups to test the skill and endurance of the participants. On Friday night, the camp was in progress and the participants were involved in their evening activities prior to hitting the mats to sleep when the aerial bombers began their all night sorties over Kilinochchi. The scouts struck by panic ran in all directions. The very long hours of constant flying gave no space for the scouts settle back to their activities. The thought of the bombing of the student camp at the old Senchcholai complex in 2006 was at top of the minds of all the participants as they ran in panic hearing the flying bombers overhead. The scout camp, however, settled back on its activities on Saturday and is continuing.
