"Consequent to the Tokyo Aid Conference and the follow up meeting in Colombo on 12th September, we realize the importance of an effective Interim Administration for the North-East, in view of the urgency of meeting the humanitarian needs relative to resettlement, rehabilitation and reconstruction" said the delegates representing the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the IMF and UNDP. After a meeting with Mr. S.P Tamilselvan, Head of the Political Wing of the LTTE in the Kilinochchi Peace Secretariat, today 22nd September.
The team comprising of Messrs. Jeremy Carter, Senior Resident Representative of IMF, Miguel Bermeo, Resident Representative of UNDP, John R. Cooney, Country Director of ADB and Peter Harrold Country Director for World Bank, Srilanka arrived in Kilinochchi this morning by an SLAF helicopter. . In a meeting that lasted for about two hours MR. Tamilselvan briefed the team on the current status of the Interim Administration proposals and dealt with at length about the sense of disappointment and frustration in the minds of the Tamil people relative to the non-implementation of the various articles in the Ceasefire Agreement which were intended to alleviate the hardships of the Tamil people and bring about normalcy in their lives. The team also discussed matters relating to the progress of on-going projects that are undertaken by their respective organizations.
