
"The international community has serious concerns about the humanitarian needs of the Tamil people"
-Norwegian Ambassador in Vanni In a meeting with Mr. S. P. Tamilselvan, Head of the Political Wing held in the Political Head Quarters in Kilinochchi today 25th February 2004 the Norwegian Ambassador Mr. Hans Brattskar told so, expressing in brief the outcome of the co-chair meeting in Washington. Mr. Brattskar who visited Vanni after he returned from Washington briefed Head of the Political Wing on matters discussed in Washington by the donor community. "Prominent in the discussion" said Mr. Brattskar, "was the concern of the international community relating to the general election in Sri Lanka, the violence connected with election, possible outburst from candidates against the peace process and the delay to recommence political negotiations. The Ambassador requested Mr. Tamilselvan to ensure that the Tamil people be facilitated to exercise their franchise in the April elections. Responding to it Mr. Tamilselvan assured that the leadership is fully committed to ensure that all democratic norms will be respected and suggested various modalities that would ensure full and free participation of the people. The Ambassador assured that he will convey these opinions to the right people including international observers.
