Commendable Quote
Europe which has a total population of 800 million is made up of 45 language based nation states. South Asia which has a total population of one billion, (1000 million) is comprised of four states. Who is preventing and therefore benefiting by limiting new nation-states in South Asia?

The killing of 13 Sinhala workers in the east

LTTE condemns in no uncertain terms the killing of the 13 innocent Sinhala civilians in the east today, 30 May 2006. The killing of innocent people cannot be justified under any circumstances.

We are shocked that a certain international news wire service has issued a report blaming the LTTE for the murders. This news wire service did not even contact us for our comments before issuing their report. Unfortunately some leading media outlets have taken this report and published it.

We also wish to note that this same international news wire service has recently issued two more baseless reports blaming the LTTE without contacting us for comments.

- On 20 May, a 12 year old was shot and killed at his home in Mavadivembu in the east. This news wire service said that suspected rebels (LTTE) killed him and quoted the Sri Lankan army saying that the LTTE killed him because he spurned attempts by the LTTE to recruit him.

- On 21 May, three offices of foreign aid organizations were attacked in Trincomalee. This same news wire service head lined, “Suspected Tamil rebels target foreign aid offices”. It is worth noting that the EU has issued a statement calling on the Government of Sri Lanka to immediately investigate this attack.

The alarming rate of civilians killed and the truth behind these killings must be a foremost concern of everyone interested in the welfare of the people in this island. We are, therefore, shocked by the baseless reports issued by a leading international news wire service.

We also like to convey our condolences to the family of the 13 Sinhala workers.
