
Artillery fire from Manalaru injures school girl
A school girl was injured in the Sri Lanka military artillery fire from its Manalaru (Weli-oya) camp towards Thangapuram-Alampil in the Mullaithivu district on Thursday 14 January at 1.30pm.
Seventeen year old Theivendram Mithuna was injured by artillery as she, with all the students from her Alampil school, ran in all directions as artillery began to fall and explode inside their school. The roof of one house, a tractor, and several bicycles were damaged in this shelling. Many productive trees were also destroyed. Visuvamadu aerial bombing injures five civilian pedestrians Sri Lanka aerial bombing over Redbanna-Visuvamadu area of the Mullaithivu district on Thursday 14 January at 9.25am injured five civilians who were walking on the Paranthan Mullaithivu main road. Velapodi Arasamma, female aged 57 of Moonkilaru, Arumugam Subramanium, male aged 78 of Vaheesan Road in Udaiyarkaddu, Periyasamy Muthu, male aged 68 of Redbanna, Perumal Iyachchi, male aged 55 of Velikandal Kandavalai and Nadarsa Gajanthan, male aged 22 of Theravil are the injured civilians. The injured were taken to the Tharmapuram hospital and the critically injured were transferred to the Kilinochchi hospital. One of the injured, Arumugam Subramanium has lost one of his arms in the bombing. A massive hole was dug on this main road making the main road unusable.
